Volunteering at Greenwood Elementary
Welcome to the Greenwood Elementary Volunteer page! Thank you for considering volunteering. Over the course of the school year, there will be many opportunities, both large and small, to make a meaningful, positive impact on our school community.
You may get started in several ways:
- Contact the volunteer committee at volunteer@greenwoodpta.org. We'd be happy to answer any questions or talk to you about volunteering.
- Connect with the primary volunteer contact for a specific event (see list below)
- If you are a parent, speak with your child’s teacher about any classroom-based volunteering opportunities they have coming up.
Volunteer Requirements
(updated September 2020)
Our new volunteer system is finally ready for NEW VOLUNTEERS! Please refer volunteers to https://www.seattleschools.org/volunteerapplication for step by step instructions.
Returning volunteers will be able to access their past applications on Tuesday.
Volunteering looks very different this year. Volunteers who will be providing remote assistance to students (online tutoring, assisting with break-out rooms online), will need to complete additional steps, including an online national background check (you will be taken to this application through the main volunteer application site), having your ID and references checked by SPS staff member, and reviewing our new “Safety Guidelines for Remote School Volunteers”. In addition, remote volunteers can only engage with students via MS Teams and must complete session reports. Parents/guardians must sign off on their students’ participation in online tutoring or support, have access to those online sessions and/or supervise them.
None of our past volunteers are approved to volunteer remotely/online with students without other adults or parent/guardian present. This role did not exist/was not approved in the past. If you completed an application to volunteer last year, with a WA state background check, your application is still good for this year, but you will need to login to complete the new, additional steps to be approved for remote volunteering.
Thank you,
Keren Holt and Brooke Van Eyk
